Heres an example of a foundation repair job we did in Pleasanton :

Enclosed is a copy of the recent floor level survey done at your home showing it to be 5.7 inches out of level. There are 2 methods for re-leveling, the first is cosmetic. We will lift the circled area of your home from the left side bathroom up to the fireplace. This should leave your home within approximately 3.3 inches of level when we are through, and will offer no resistance to future settlement.

Your home will be leveled from its existing foundation and no additional foundation work is included in this recommendation. As the house is raised, a crack will appear between the top of the foundation and the framing. We will grout this crack as necessary, with a high strength non-shrink grout, to support the house but it will be visible and will need additional cosmetic work later which is not included in our estimate.

We will replace the wood underpinning blocks with adjustable steel piers in the area of the lift and extend the foundation bolts as necessary to provide anchorage. If the foundation bolts are missing or for some reason cannot be extended, we will secure the frame to the foundation with another method suited to the particular construction of the building. If portion of the exterior concrete patio need to be removed to facilitate the lifting, this work will be done on a time and materials basis.

The second option would be to underpin the perimeter foundation from the bathroom through the right side of the family room including the fireplace. We will then lift the perimeter foundation off of the new piers, and replace the interior wood blocks with steel jacks in the area of the lift, leaving the home within approximately 2 inches of level. The estimated depth for each pier is 10 feet. We will remove and replace sections of the adjacent concrete flatwork as necessary. This foundation should be more resistant to future settlement.
